Hip Hop

Hip Hop is a style of music that involves musical rhythms and mostly uses rap. Hip Hop artists have embraced creativity in their music that involves the use of words that rhyme to make their music interesting.

History

The genre was developed in the 1970s by African Americans and Latin Americans. It mainly involves break dancing, Rapping and also a bit of graffiti writing. The style is derived from styles such as electro, breakbeat, big heat and breakbeat hard-core. The highly listened to genre uses instruments such as music sequencer, synthesizer, keyboard and turntables. Hip Hop music has grown and developed over the years since its inception.

As a result of Hip Hop music, other genres such as R&B and Trap music have been born. Hip Hop music has been accepted all around the world even outside the American community. Some of the artists who have made the genre successful include:

  • Afrikan Bambaataa

Born in 1957, Bambaataa has been a major influence in the development of Hip Hop music. He is a rapper, a Disc jockey and a producer from America. He has songs like Reckless, Unity, and Afrika Shox. He also has albums such as The light and Lost Generation among others.

  • Drake

Aubrey Drake Graham is a professional rapper and singer born in 1986. He is famously known for the Hip Hop kind of music. He has been active in music since 2001 and has released albums such as Thank Me Later and Scorpion. He also has singles like Hotline bling and God’s plan.
